Its West Valley City page says it provides fireplace services and products there, offers help from product choice to full-scale installation, and lists ‘several gas and wood stove options’; its stove page names a Jøtul wood stove. The nearest showroom is in Sandy. Confirm the model is EPA certified and who pulls the West Valley City permit.

West Valley City says a building permit must be purchased from its Building Inspection Division, and its list of single-family work that needs permits and inspections includes installing or replacing any fireplace (wood or gas) or woodstove. The division is in Community Development at City Hall, 3600 S Constitution Boulevard. The city page does not list wood-stove submittal documents, so ask what it needs for the stove listing, clearances, hearth and chimney or liner, and confirm the model is EPA certified before you buy. The city permit does not replace the county’s burning rules, and a Salt Lake County mailing address does not settle which city issues the permit.
West Valley City Building Inspections: Permit RequirementsSalt Lake County Health Regulation #35 (adopted 2015) bars burning solid fuel on both voluntary and mandatory action days set by Utah’s Division of Air Quality from November 1 through March 1, after a burn-down period of up to three hours. Registered sole-source homes are exempt, and a temporary sole-source exemption may be granted if the regular heating system fails. It is not automatic, so ask the Health Department how to request one before relying on a stove in an outage.
Salt Lake County Health Regulation #35, Solid Fuel Burning (PDF, adopted 2015)Utah Admin. Code R307-302-6 says no person shall sell, offer for sale, supply, install or transfer a wood burning stove that is not EPA certified, or a fireplace that is not EPA qualified, and it applies across Salt Lake County. An uncertified stove installed before March 6, 2014 may pass with the house in a sale if it stays in place. Used or older stoves are generally not an option, so confirm certification before paying.
Utah Admin. Code R307-302, Solid Fuel Burning DevicesR307-302 defines a sole source of heat as a solid fuel device that is the only available heat for the entire residence, apart from small portable heaters. A person using one must register with the Division of Air Quality director to be exempt during mandatory no-burn periods, and Salt Lake County’s rule honors that registration. A home with a working furnace that adds a stove for backup does not qualify.
Utah Admin. Code R307-302, Solid Fuel Burning DevicesSalt Lake County’s Health Department says it regulates wood and other solid-fuel burning in the county. On voluntary and mandatory action days from November 1 to March 1 it prohibits burning in fireplaces and wood stoves and also bans outdoor fires, including patio pits and charcoal grill fires. Open burning of yard waste is not permitted at any time. The department investigates complaints, and notices of violation can carry penalties up to $299 per day.

Yes, if it is EPA certified. Utah’s R307-302-6 bars selling or installing a wood stove that is not EPA certified in Salt Lake County, and West Valley City requires a permit to install or replace a fireplace or woodstove. The harder limit is on use: winter burning is banned on air action days unless an exemption applies.
Not automatically. From November 1 to March 1, Salt Lake County bans burning on voluntary and mandatory action days. Regulation #35 says a temporary sole-source exemption may be granted if the oil, gas, electric or propane heating system fails. Ask the county Health Department how to request it before winter; this guide cannot promise it will be granted.
Utah’s rule lets a home burn during mandatory no-burn periods only if the solid-fuel device is the sole source of heat for the entire residence and it is registered with the Division of Air Quality. Salt Lake County’s regulation exempts registered sole sources. A house with a working furnace does not qualify.
