Its stove and insert page says it sells and installs stoves and inserts and notes wood-burning stoves keep heating during power outages; its service-area page mentions new wood fireplace inserts and stainless steel liner installation. Most of the insert page covers gas and electric units, so confirm the wood model and whether it holds a St. Charles County license.

Inside St. Peters city limits, the Building Department at 1 St. Peters Centre Boulevard issues permits (636-477-6600, ext. 1670). The city says a permit is required for new construction, additions, remodels and repairs to electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, and that applications, permit status and inspection scheduling run through its CitizenServe portal. St. Peters uses the 2021 International Residential and Mechanical Codes with local amendments, and its mechanical code lets the Code Official issue building and mechanical permits on one application. No city page we read names wood stoves, so ask which permit covers the stove, liner and chimney. St. Charles, O’Fallon and unincorporated St. Charles County issue their own permits.
City of St. Peters: Apply for Licenses & PermitsCentral County Fire and Rescue, based in St. Peters, says its burning rules apply to property in its district whether inside the City of St. Peters or in unincorporated St. Charles County. Household refuse burning is prohibited, and trees, leaves and brush may be burned only outside incorporated municipalities, from September 16 to April 14. Recreational fires may burn only untreated wood, and the district may ban burning when hazardous. We found no rule on indoor stove use, but that is not a guarantee.
Central County Fire & Rescue: Open Burn PermitsSt. Peters amends its mechanical code (Sec. 515.050, item 903.90) to require every prefabricated metal chimney to be enclosed in a shaft of one layer of 5/8-inch Type X gypsum board, from the fireplace connector to the underside of the roof sheathing, with the chimney maker’s clearances kept. An exterior chimney needs only the adjacent exterior wall lined. Ask your installer to price and frame this chase before the stove is ordered.
St. Peters Code Ch. 515: Mechanical Code (Sec. 515.050)St. Peters’ mechanical code says any contractor entering the mechanical contracting business in the city must first be examined and licensed by St. Charles County, may need a St. Peters business license, and must employ a licensed supervisor. A homeowner working in an existing home they own and occupy is excepted. The code does not say whether stove work counts as mechanical, so ask the Building Department and your installer.
St. Peters Code Ch. 515: Mechanical Code (Sec. 515.050)St. Peters’ residential code amendment R1005.7 says a factory-built chimney with offsets may not lean more than 30 degrees from vertical at any point and may not have more than four elbows, unless it is installed per the manufacturer’s instructions. If your stove pipe has to jog around rafters or a second floor, ask the installer to show the route and the chimney maker’s limits.
St. Peters Code Ch. 504: Residential Code (R1005.7)This is a planning guide, not a permit determination. The local authority and your installer must confirm current requirements for your property and appliance. We have not verified project-specific approvals or fees.

Expect one. St. Peters says a permit is required for remodels and repairs to mechanical systems, and applications and inspections run through its CitizenServe portal. St. Peters’ mechanical code excepts a homeowner working in an existing home they own and live in from its contractor-licensing rule. The work still needs a permit and must pass inspection, including the city’s gypsum-shaft rule for metal chimneys. If you hire anyone, ask for their St. Charles County license.
No. A St. Peters mailing address can fall inside the City of St. Peters, a neighbouring city such as St. Charles or O’Fallon, or unincorporated St. Charles County, and each issues its own permits. Check your jurisdiction before hiring; inside city limits, the St. Peters Building Department handles it.
