A new flue, chimney or roof penetration is exterior work. The application is filed with the Planning Department at least 10 days before the commission’s meeting on the first Tuesday of each month. Conservation districts review only demolition, new construction and moving buildings. The city lists the Normain Heights and Riviera Place districts.

Know which historic districts the city lists.

Mishawaka’s historic sites page lists the Normain Heights District on North Main Street north of McKinley Avenue, the Riviera Place District on Riviera Drive, and a group of Cedar Street houses, along with individually listed houses on Lincolnway East and West. If your home is on this list, ask the Planning Department whether it is locally designated before planning a visible chimney.
