Its Idaho Falls showroom page says the store sells wood stoves and fireplace inserts and that its in-house team installs and repairs them across East Idaho, naming Rexburg among towns its service team regularly travels to. It says technicians are employees, not subcontractors. It also sells hot tubs and saunas, so ask for a hearth quote, travel charges, and who applies for the Rexburg permit.

Its fireplaces page says it carries wood and gas stoves and offers install services, mainly at its Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Jackson and Pocatello stores. The site does not describe its install crew, so ask who installs, whether they hold a mechanical license, and who pulls the permit.

Inside city limits, the City of Rexburg Building Department (208-372-2166) at City Hall, 35 N 1st East, issues permits and runs an HVAC (mechanical) program meant to ensure installers are properly trained and licensed. Apply at apply.rexburg.org, which has a Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing project category; the city asks for 10 days for plan review. Its required-inspection list includes an HVAC rough-in before work is covered and a mechanical final. City Hall is open Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday until 12:30 p.m. The pages do not name wood stoves, so ask which permit and inspections a stove, insert or chimney needs.
City of Rexburg: BuildingWe found no Rexburg ordinance limiting indoor wood stoves; a search of the city code turned up only outdoor and trash burning rules. Idaho DEQ publishes no Rexburg forecast. Its nearest, for Idaho Falls, has a residential wood-heating line that showed no restrictions when we checked on September 30, 2026, and DEQ’s ordinance index lists none for that region. Winter inversions can change conditions, so check before relying on this guide.
Idaho DEQ Idaho Falls air quality forecastRexburg’s short-term rental requirements say a licensed mechanical contractor, not the owner, must do mechanical work on a rental property, and that building changes require a permit. The same page requires working smoke detectors in halls and bedrooms and carbon monoxide detectors in hallways outside sleeping areas. Landlords adding a stove should hire a licensed installer and check detectors before the final inspection.
City of Rexburg: Short Term Rentals InformationMadison County’s Building Department has issued building permits since 1976 and has adopted the 2018 International Residential and Mechanical Codes. Its page says mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits and inspections are handled through the City of Rexburg building department and are no longer issued by the State of Idaho. If your address is outside city limits, ask the county building official (208-359-6305) which office permits a stove and chimney.

Not on your own. A stove, chimney and hearth are permanent mechanical work, so the property owner decides and the permit is in their name. Rexburg’s short-term rental page also says mechanical work on a rental property must be done by a licensed mechanical contractor, not the owner. This guide is for homeowners and landlords; tenants should ask their landlord.
We found none for indoor stoves. Rexburg’s city code covers outdoor and trash burning but not wood stoves, and Idaho DEQ publishes no Rexburg forecast. DEQ’s Idaho Falls forecast, the nearest, has a residential wood-heating line that showed no restrictions on September 30, 2026. Check it in winter, since rules and conditions can change.
Start with the Madison County Building Department, which issues county building permits under the 2018 codes. Its page says mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits and inspections go through the City of Rexburg building department, so a stove may involve both offices. Call the county building official at 208-359-6305 to confirm before buying.
